How does the treatment work?
The treatment uses insulated microneedles to deliver controlled radiofrequency (RF) energy directly into the deeper layers of the skin. This dual action stimulates the body’s natural production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, which are essential for firm, smooth, and youthful-looking skin. The microneedles create precise micro-injuries that trigger healing and tissue remodeling, while the RF energy heats the targeted tissue, enhancing tightening and lifting effects. Over the following weeks, the skin gradually becomes firmer, smoother, and more rejuvenated.
In Profound RF microneedling, the needles are designed to deliver higher, precise temperatures compared with standard RF microneedling devices. While typical RF microneedling heats the tissue to around 38-42°C, Profound RF targets the dermis at 67°C for a short, controlled period. This higher temperature is critical because it maximizes collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production without damaging the skin surface, resulting in more significant lifting, tightening, and volumizing effects.

How does it feel during treatment?
During Profound RF microneedling, you may feel a combination of pricking or pinching sensations from the microneedles and heat or warmth from the radiofrequency energy. Most patients describe it as tolerable, and local anesthesia or numbing cream is applied beforehand to minimize discomfort. Sensations are brief and focused only on the treated areas, making the procedure manageable for most clients.
How long does the treatment take?
A Profound RF microneedling session typically begins with 20 minutes of numbing cream to ensure your comfort. The actual treatment then takes around 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the size and number of areas being treated.
How many treatments will I need?
Most clients achieve optimal results with a single Profound RF microneedling treatment, thanks to its powerful collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid stimulation. In some cases, depending on the severity of skin laxity or specific goals, a second session may be recommended several months later to enhance results. Maintenance treatments of HIFU or RF skin tightening is recommended to support results of Profound.
What is the downtime?
Profound RF microneedling has little downtime, but some temporary side effects are normal. Most clients experience redness, swelling, and mild tenderness in the treated area for 3-7 days, along with small pinpoint marks from the needles that heal quickly. Makeup can usually be applied after a couple of days, and normal activities can be resumed almost immediately, making it a convenient option for skin rejuvenation.
When will I see results?
Some improvement in skin firmness and texture can be noticed within 1-2 weeks after treatment, but the full effects of Profound RF microneedling develop gradually as your body produces new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. Optimal results are usually visible after 8-12 weeks, with tighter, smoother, and more youthful-looking skin that can last for years with proper care.
How should I prepare for the treatment?
For best results, follow these pre treatment steps:
- Avoid sun exposure for at least 1 week prior to treatment
- Stop use of strong skincare products and retinoids for 1 week before treatment
- Avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen a few days before treatment
- Stay hydrated
What is the aftercare?
- Apply a cold compress to the treated area 10-15 minutes at a time every 1-2 hours during the first 24 hours - this helps reduce swelling and redness
- Keep skin clean and dry for the first 24 hours
- Do not pick or scratch peeling skin - allow flakes to fall off naturally
- Moisturise skin regularly
- Avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks following treatment
- Apply SPF50+ daily
- Avoid applying makeup for 3-5 days
- Do not use harsh exfoliating products or retinoids whilst skin is healing
- Avoid hot showers, saunas and steamrooms for 5 -7 days
- Stay hydrated - drink at least 2 litres of water daily
