How does the treatment work?
Fraxel CO₂ is a fractional laser resurfacing treatment that targets damaged skin with tiny laser channels while leaving surrounding tissue intact. These microscopic channels penetrate deep into the skin, removing damaged layers and stimulating collagen and elastin production. This process encourages your skin to heal and regenerate, resulting in smoother texture, reduced wrinkles, minimized scars, and a more even tone
FAQ'S
How does it feel during treatment?
During a Fraxel CO₂ session, most clients feel a warm, prickling, or stinging sensation as the laser targets the skin. The intensity varies depending on the treatment area and settings, but a topical numbing cream is applied beforehand to minimize discomfort. Some describe it as a quick series of tiny pinches or snaps. Most people tolerate it well, though areas with thinner skin (like around the eyes or lips) can feel slightly more sensitive.
How long does the treatment take?
The treatment typically takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size and number of areas being treated. Smaller areas like around the eyes or mouth may take less time, while larger areas like the body can take closer to an hour. Prep time, including numbing cream application, may add an additional 20-30 minutes.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of Fraxel CO₂ treatments needed depends on your skin concerns and goals. Most patients achieve optimal results with 1 to 3 sessions, spaced about 4-6 weeks apart to allow the skin to heal and collagen to develop. Deeper wrinkles, significant sun damage, or pronounced scars may require additional sessions for the best outcome.
What is the downtime?
After a Fraxel CO₂ treatment, clients may experience redness, swelling, and mild irritation for 3-7 days, similar to a sunburn. The skin may also flake, peel, or feel tight as it heals. Makeup can usually be applied after 3-5 days, and normal activities can typically be resumed once initial redness subsides. Full healing and the best results appear over 1-2 weeks, with continued improvement as collagen develops over the following months.
When will I see results?
Most clients notice initial improvements within 1-2 weeks, as redness and peeling subside and the skin begins to look smoother. Full results - including firmer, more even-toned, and radiant skin - usually appear over 2-3 months, as collagen and elastin continue to rebuild.
How should I prepare for the treatment?
For best results, follow these pre treatment steps:
- Avoid sun exposure for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment
- Stop use of strong skincare products and retinoids for 1 week before treatment
- Avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen a few days before treatment
- Stay hydrated
What is the aftercare?
- Apply a cold compress to the treated area 10-15 minutes at a time every 1-2 hours during the first 24 hours - this helps reduce swelling and redness
- Keep skin clean and dry for the first 24 hours
- Do not pick or scratch peeling skin - allow flakes to fall off naturally
- Moisturise skin regularly
- Avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks following treatment
- Apply SPF50+ daily
- Avoid applying makeup for 3-5 days
- Do not use harsh exfoliating products or retinoids whilst skin is healing
- Avoid hot showers, saunas and steamrooms for 1 week
- Stay hydrated - drink at least 2 litres of water daily
